Mixed leaf side salad

This evening we picked our first little mixed leaf side salad of the season to go with a quick pasta dish for dinner. Baby spinach leaf, wild rocket, sorrel and giant leaf parsley and it was absolutely delicious.

If everyone tasted some home grown salad leaves, the supermarkets would never sell a prepacked bag of salad again! I think everyone should grow their own salad leaves. Even if it is in a windowbox. The taste is unrivalled.

Congrats on submitting your coursework! The salad looks lovely.

My Viet mint has been munched on by slugs, though judging by your experience I think they will survive if I keep an eye on the slug situation. Don't know how these creepy crawlies managed to climb up to my 1st floor balcony though. But am relieve to see they really only attacked the mint and the perilla but have left most of the other leaves alone. Phew!

Hope all's well,
Zada

I came home tonight after work to pick the first homegrown salad leaves for supper too - unfortunately, I was told that we are having chili con carne for supper! Another day to wait...

I've been thinking the same thing about homegrown salad greens. Why don't more people grow them? Even here in the city, lettuce can be grown in containers or window boxes. It doesn't require a lot of space. I think people just don't realize what they're missing.

Enjoy your delicious salad!
