Rome wasn't built in a day

Two weeks now since the big clearing weekend and we've tried hard to keep the momentum going by spending a few hours working on the plot each weekend. This has been spent mostly digging out big bramble roots and raking over soil picking out all the little pieces of root.

We managed to 'womble' a load of unwanted paving stones using our local freecycle and started putting in a bit of structure this afternoon. The plot, well the whole site really, is on a slope and our topsoil is being washed downhill... Not ideal and to try and hang on to it we've dug a small gulley along the bottom of the plot to catch loose topsoil and also made a sort of retaining edge and path. Time will tell if these actually make a difference.

We have the first veg bed marked out now with green manure seed scattered today. Hopefully it will grow! More soil clearing, raking, marking out and more green manure seed is on the agenda next week! Slowly but surely it is starting to resemble a veg plot...
